Visual Edits Competition

Visual Edits Competition

The winner of the NUFS 2021 Visual Edits Competition has been announced so we take a deeper look at the amazing entries, inlcuding the competition winner.

Last week a panel of judges selected the winning piece for our Visual Edits competition, based on creativity and originality.

NUFS Vice President Greta Greiciunaitė came up with the idea for this competition and at the end of January, she set a brief for our society members to create an interesting edit or collage using minimum 5 of the photos we provided.

Except for that there were no more rules, and freedom was left for participants to experiment with visuals such as patterns, colours, angles and forms.

We wanted our members to express their own flair and creativity; and we were definitely not disappointed.

Despite starting with the same initial materials, the four entrants pieces could not have been more different. Take a look below at the final images, along with descriptions of each one.

1. Hatty Lovell

“I wanted to reflect the elegance of the lady through the swans. They are intertwined in the shape of a heart to portray unity. The clock also resembles time, that you should keep your loved ones close to you. The chequered pattern seems disorienting and like an illusion to show how fast life can go past without realising.”

2. Neelam Majumder (winner)

“A modern day Father Time.”

3. Justina Mitkute

“This artwork is my playground for playing with gender, shapes, colours, dimensions. I wanted to create a different world in which fantasy and reality dissolves”

4. Thomas Lucock

“The concept behind my edit has derived from the pandemic, it begins in black and white connoting us being in a time of sadness and no hope, then slowly moves into sepia which shows that hope is slowly being restored and then the colour behind represents us potentially going back to reality and finding that happiness we once had.”
